Ansu Fati and Dest make their way into golden boy shortlist, Griezmann takes a dig at Ronald Koeman

Barcelona duo Ansu Fati and Segino Dest have both been included on the final 20-man shortlist for the prestigious Golden Boy award for 2020.

The award is organized by Italian newspaper Tuttosport and handed out every year to the best player under the age of 21 playing in Europe’s top leagues.

Ansu has unsurprisingly caught the attention after making the breakthrough at Barcelona and forcing his way into the Spain national team.

The 17-year-old became Spain’s youngest goal scorer in September when he netted against Ukraine in the Nations League.

Sergino Dest is also on the list after impressing for Ajax in the Eredivisie before his recent move to the Camp Nou.

Here’s the full list:

  • Bakker (Netherlands)
  • Camavinga (France)
  • David (Canada)
  • Davies (Canada)
  • Dest  (USA)
  • Fabio Silva (Portugal)
  • Ansu Fati (Spain)
  • Foden (England)
  • Gravenberch (Netherlands)
  • Greenwood (England)
  • Haaland (Norway)
  • Hudson-Odoi (England)
  • Kulusevski (Sweden)
  • Rodrygo (Brazil)
  • Saka (England)
  • Sancho (England)
  • Szoboszlai (Hungary)
  • Tonali (Italy)
  • Ferran Torres (Spain)
  • Vinícius (Brazil)

The list has been reduced from 100 to 20 ahead of the announcement of who has won which is due to be made on December 14.

Joao Felix scooped the award last time out, but the current favorite seems to be Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.

Antoine Griezmann appeared to take a bit of a swipe at Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman after scoring in France’s 2-1 Nations League win over Croatia on Wednesday.

The forward started the game and scored the opening goal after just 11 minutes with a smart finish from inside the penalty area.

Griezmann was asked about his thoughts after the match and praised France boss Didier Deschamps for playing him in a central role.

“It was a complicated match, not very good to watch, not very good to play either … Soft ground, difficult, with an opponent who had to win. We knew how to suffer and the most important thing is to win, to show that we are strong defensively and that up front, every small opportunity can be scored.

“I feel good. The coach knows where to put me, I take advantage of this situation, this place and the confidence of the coach and my teammates.”

Koeman has tended to use Griezmann out wide on the right in his opening three La Liga games despite insisting at the start of the season that he wanted his players to play in their favored positions.
